From Global News.
Hundreds of mourners gathered in Uruapan, Michoacan, on Sunday for the funeral of a local mayor, Carlos Manzo, who was gunned down during Day of the Dead celebrations Saturday night.
Grecia Quiroz, Manzo’s widow, vowed to continue his legacy and work for the city’s future. The killing, which occurred in front of children and families in middle of a public celebration, has deepened fears and frustration in Uruapan, a city plagued by cartel violence and a lack of effective government response.
Meanwhile, on Monday, demonstrators gathered outside the Michoacan government palace, shouting slogans and kicking doors, demanding justice and an end to violence.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum vowed on Monday that authorities are conducting a full investigation to find those responsible for the murder.
