Outside a polling station in Woodbridge, Virginia, some voters said the gubernatorial race was "a referendum on Donald Trump." Others said the crime rate and political violence were important issues.

Voters in New Jersey and Virginia will choose their next governors on November 4 in a pair of races that will serve as an early gauge of the American electorate’s response to President Trump’s norm-shattering nine months in office.
