“Mass chaos”: US transportation secretary warns about air travel if government shutdown continues

From Global News.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy warned on Tuesday that the U.S. is headed towards "mass chaos" if a near historic government shutdown continues. Parts of U.S. airspace could be shut down as soon as next week if the shutdown drags on and air traffic controllers continue to not get paid, Duffy said.

"You will see, mass flight delays, you’ll see mass cancellations. And you may see us close certain parts of the airspace because we just cannot manage it, because we don’t have the air traffic controllers,” Duffy said.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that "Our air traffic controllers are continuing to work unpaid. Every single major airline in our country is coming out and begging the Democrats to please reopen the government."
