Danielle Smith touts US trade strategy which gives Alberta “97% tariff free” relationship

From Global News.

During a fireside chat at the Canada Strong and Free Network on Friday, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith touched on diversifying oil exports and dealing with the Trump administration amid his sweeping tariff policies.

"What I’ve learned about President Trump is you don’t go to him and say, ‘Oh you better not do that because it’ll hurt me.’ That is like the last thing that is going to win him over. You say, ‘Hey, why don’t we work together because I’m gonna help you; this is going to make America great! This is going to make sure that your energy prices are low for your people, this is going to help with your energy dominance. We are going to be able to assist you in being an AI leader.’ That has been our argument,” Smith said.

The Alberta premier went on to contrast her strategy with what other premiers and the federal government have done, suggesting her strategy is what allows Alberta to enjoy a “97 per cent tariff free” relationship with the United States.
