After being abandoned by his mother last summer, a Japanese macaque named Punch has stolen hearts around the world for his attachment to an orangutan plush toy.

“This soft toy has quite long fur and several easy places to hold, and it looks like a monkey. We thought that it looking like a monkey might help Punch integrate back into the troop later on, that’s why we chose it,” Punch’s zoo keeper Kosuke Shikano said.

Punch hasn’t had the easiest time being welcomed by the troop. However, over time, zookeepers have noticed punch steadily blending in with the other monkeys.
