From Global News.
Canadian Minister of Labour Steven MacKinnon is set to provide about the ongoing labour dispute between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) on Wednesday.
The strike, which just entered its fourth week, has seen approximately 55,000 Canada Post employees off the job and on the picket lines since Nov. 14.
Though public support is key to the success of this strike, the enthusiasm is rapidly waning among the Canadian population as delays have resulted in tens of millions of packages and are now, ultimately, impacting the holiday season, with many gifts seemingly stuck in limbo.
MacKinnon’s update comes two days after Canada Post reached a resolution with the CUPW about a recent complaint to the Canada Industrial Relations Board surrounding temporary layoffs. As part of the resolution, the union withdrew its complaint and Canada Post let roughly 300 impacted employees know that they are not actually on temporary layoff.
