China’s ruling Communist Party is holding an important gathering of its own, to talk about the future of the country’s economy. It’s thought the closed-doors meeting will lay out a strategy for greater self-suffciency. China has been reporting weak economic growth since the global pandemic, with the country’s important construction and real-estate sector particularly hard hit. Youth unemployment has also been rising, as millions of graduates struggle to find jobs. Many Chinese say they are nervous about the country’s economic outlook.
