Freeland takes questions from media amid reports of tension with Trudeau | LIVE

From Global News.

Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland will answer questions from the media in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Tuesday, following a tour of an energy utility facility.

Amid reports of tension between the prime minister’s office and the finance minister, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed his “full confidence” in Chrystia Freeland last week.

Speaking at the close of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Washington, D.C., Trudeau was asked about the possibility of replacing Freeland — also his deputy prime minister — with Mark Carney, former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.

The question followed media reports of “tension” between the PMO and Freeland over her recent handling of the economic file, which also suggested Carney as a possible successor to Freeland as finance minister.
