Magnesium can cause gastrointestinal distress in some people. If you want to try this magnesium mocktail, Dr. Abbasi-Feinberg advises starting with a low dose, like half of the recommended dose, to try and avoid some of those side effects in order to make sure you can tolerate it. She also recommends starting with magnesium glycinate because it seems to be absorbed better by the body. And you can skip the mocktail if you want and just take the supplement straight.
