“It is what it is”: Higgs loses own riding as N.B. PCs take devastating election blow

From Global News.

New Brunswick Progressive Conservative (PC) Leader Blaine Higgs lost his riding to Liberal Aaron Kennedy as PCs were dealt a devastating election blow in Monday’s provincial election.

“It’s certainly not the night we hoped for but nevertheless, it is what it is,” Higgs told supporters at his election gathering, before wishing Susan Holt “every success” as the province’s new premier.

Holt’s Liberals won a majority government after a 33-day campaign that was considered a tight race between her and Higgs. In the end, with all votes counted, the Liberals swept 31 ridings and Holt became the province’s first female premier.

Higgs, 70, has been leader of the PCs since 2016, and premier of New Brunswick since 2018. He said his party will begin discussing leadership transition in the coming days.
