Kenya police fire tear gas to disperse protests: Ruto “is a puppet to the IMF”

From Global News.

In Kenya, police used tear gas to disperse a large gathering of demonstrators who were calling for President William Ruto’s resignation. The protesters expressed dissatisfaction with Ruto’s leadership and demanded systemic changes to address corruption and poor governance.

"Ruto is very much incompetent. He has no leadership skills. He just wanted the title to be the president of this country… The guy is a puppet to the IMF. That is it. Whatever he’s doing, he’s doing for the IMF. He’s not leading this country at all, he’s not leading this country at all," a protestor said.

Nationwide protests that broke out a month ago against proposed tax hikes have continued even after Ruto withdrew the legislation and fired almost all of his cabinet.

At least 50 people have been killed in the protests to date, according to the government-funded Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
