LCBO strike now seems likely in Ontario as union says talks have broken down | LIVE

From Global News.

The union representing Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) workers will hold a news conference in downtown Toronto on Thursday evening to provide an update on the status of bargaining and to respond to questions ahead of the imminent strike deadline.

In earlier remarks, the union said that talks have broken down with the Crown corporation and it is “not hopeful” it will reach a deal before midnight.

In a statement issued just after 5 p.m., the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) said they believed a province-wide strike was on the horizon with the deadline “imminent.”

“After a long week at the bargaining table, talks have broken down and we are not hopeful a deal can be reached at this time,” OPSEU said.

Throughout the week — with the strike deadline at 12:01 a.m. on Friday — both the union and the LCBO had stayed tight-lipped. The two sides have been locked in fruitless talks for weeks, with little progress to show.
