Montreal’s new mayor Martinez Ferrada vows quick action on STM strike and homelessness

Just hours after being elected Montreal’s new mayor, Soraya Martinez Ferrada was already greeting commuters in the metro and meeting city officials.

She says tackling the ongoing STM strike is now a top priority despite not campaigning on it.

The former federal cabinet minister also vows to address homelessness, pledging no one will die unsheltered this winter.

Martinez Ferrada plans to eliminate encampments within four years through housing and support programs. Dan Spector reports.
