Maori lawmakers performed the haka, a traditional ceremonial dance, disrupting parliament in a protest Thursday against a bill that aims to reinterpret a centuries-old document seen as New Zealand’s founding treaty with its Indigenous people. Maori lawmaker Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke stood up during a first reading of the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill and started performing a haka, joined by other opposition members.
