Many of the world’s leaders closest to the U.S. have spoke out regarding Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. election on Wednesday. Among the nations, Canada, Mexico, Ukraine, Japan and the U.K.
“I look forward to working with President [elect] Trump, once again, to strengthen North American economic opportunities for the middle class,” said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland addressed “concerned” residents, saying she is “absolutely confident that Canada will be prosperous” and that “Canadians will be safe.”
Though Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said she would not formally recognize Trump’s win until all votes were tallied, she told the Mexican population that there is “no reason to worry.”
Amid war with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Trump and expressed positivity that the returning president would not abandon President Joe Biden’s pursuit of peace between the nations.
Trump became president-elect in the early hours of Wednesday, after clearing the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency.
