It’s an alarming move. U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the U.S. military to start nuclear tests on American soil after the program was shuttered more than three decades ago.

As they often do, the order arrived via a social media post. Trump was on his way to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping when he wrote this on Truth Social: “The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country. This was accomplished, including a complete update and renovation of existing weapons, during my First Term in office. Because of the tremendous destructive power, I HATED to do it, but had no choice!”

Trump added “I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis.”
