Trump pet-eating comments draw ire of Springfield, Ohio mayor: “It’s just ridiculous”

From Global News.

Mayor of Springfield, Ohio, Rob Rue said on Sunday that it’s "been very difficult because of the amount of threats that have come in over the last three days." The furor caused by Donald Trump’s comments during the presidential debate, he says, has "caused our safety forces to be strained," adding that police have had to "make sure that all the facilities that have been listed in these emails are safe."

"When people take the national stage, whether it’s with the microphone from their platform, or whether it’s even on social media, they need to understand what the cost of their words or their actions is going to do to a community," Rue said. Trump claimed that migrants were eating the pets of residents in the city.

"Your pets are safe in Springfield, Ohio. We have no documented proof with our police department and our sheriff’s department of anybody reporting that their animal has been abused or taken from them and eaten. It’s just ridiculous."
