A Georgia judge Tuesday blocked a new rule requiring counties to hand-count Election Day ballots after the polls close. The rule, passed by the state’s election board last month, required poll workers to count each paper ballot. Cobb County’s election board filed a lawsuit challenging the board’s decision.Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled that the hand count cannot take place, saying the measure is “too much, too late" for the 2024 election. McBurney’s ruling comes as the state broke its first-day record for early voting, with more than 300,000 Georgia voters casting ballots. Lisa Desjardins reports.
