Hagfish slime is made primarily out of mucus, but it’s no ordinary snot. It’s also chock full of protein threads that look like balls of yarn under a microscope. Once they hit the seawater, those proteins unspool without tangling. In this behind the scenes video, watch how Deep Look’s Teodros Hailye created this special animation that shows the inner workings of a hagfish slime ball.
