Winnipeg Jets: NHL commissioner Gary Bettman speaks amid growing fear team may be on the move | LIVE

From Global News.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is holding a press conference in Winnipeg on Tuesday. His visit to the Manitoba capital comes as the Jets’ season-ticket numbers have decreased, and the team’s future viability is being questioned.

Bettman is expected to address these issues in his press conference, which includes meetings with Jets brass and a pre-game "fireside chat" with fans. The visit follows Jets owner Mark Chipman’s candid comments about the team’s struggles with season-ticket sales.

In an interview with a national sports outlet on Friday, Chipman stated that the Jets need to get back to a season ticket base of 13,000, and that the club’s current attendance numbers are "not going to work over the long haul."

The Jets famously sold 13,500 season tickets in just minutes upon arriving in Winnipeg in 2011, but are struggling to draw fans to the Canada Life Centre.
