From Global News.
Oil exports to countries such as Syria have been an economic lifeline for Russia in its war with Ukraine. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, three sanctioned oil tankers are now inoperable after a drone strike over the weekend. However, with the ongoing war in Iran, the global price of oil continues to surge upward, potentially offsetting the cost of those losses.
“Russia clearly is advantaged here, they’ve made a lot more money from higher oil prices, they’ve managed to provide some support for the Iranians. Trump hasn’t hit them back, in fact, he’s suspended sanctions so I think they feel stronger against Ukraine,” Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer said.
As Mackenzie Gray reports, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to meet one-on-one on Monday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a summit in Armenia.
