According to Italian folklore, each January, the witch La Befana mounts her broomstick and embarks on a search for the baby Jesus, leaving every child she encounters with candies and gifts. For generations, Italian families have celebrated this story by welcoming La Befana with a festive bonfire. But the age-old tradition is now at grave risk.
