Join me as I make an ambient, electronic, lofi musical texture. First weāll route an electric piano playing an extended minor 11 chord into Abletonās Looper where it will be overdubbed and reversed. Then weāll send this audio into Abletonās Beat Repeat, an interesting audio effect that brings aspects of the Roland SP-404 into Live. This will introduce rhythmic values that weāll return to a wall of sound with Abletonās Hybrid Reverb. A simple kick and rim drum beat will provide a pumping effect to the ambient texture by sidechaining it to the kick through the use of a compressor. Abletonās Echo and Auto Filter effects will further develop the texture by manipulating them in musical time and in harmonic frequency.
With this cozy evolving pad providing a bed of sound, weāll use a simple organ like sine wave synth layer to play a 1 to 4 chord progression. Weāll use an envelope follower receiving the audio of the kick drum to modulate the wavetable position of the synthesizer creating a quick burst of harmonics.
Weāll use a deep sub bass layer to provide a foundation for the track in the form of each chordās root note. With the stage fully set, the search for a tasty melody in this cozy texture may begin. Using a monophonic singing synth, weāll explore minimalistic melodic fragments, quick arpeggiations and many things in between.
