The vibiest musical scale has no name. This scale is used by musicians and artists like Berlioz, Flying Lotus, Domi & JD Beck, Thundercat, BADBADNOTGOOD, Kaytranada, and so many more that have a sophisticated harmonic element in their music. Technically this scale is called the Minor Hexatonic Scale, but considering how central this scale is to modern music from House to Drum & Bass to Hip Hop and beyond, it is surprising that it doesn’t have a more common name. In this video, I build an Ambient House track with an Electric Piano drenched in reverb, LoFi Drums, Fretless Bass, and a Lead Synthesizer. Along the way we’ll check out how everything originates with the 6 notes of this Vibiest Scale.
