Subramanyam Vedam had been serving more than 40 years in prison for a murder conviction that was recently thrown out. When he was set to be released, he was taken into ICE custody and put in deportation proceedings. On Thursday, an immigration judge ruled he can stay in the country. Despite the decision, Vedam won’t be released right away. He and his attorney still must file a bond request. The Department of Homeland Security has until May 4 to appeal. CNN’s Omar Jimenez reports.
