A mother black bear was illegally shot and killed near Balmoral, Manitoba, leaving behind three orphaned cubs.

Experts in the area say there was no threat to public safety and that the animals would have moved away from civilization in a couple of weeks. Now, Conservation Manitoba is investigating the killing.
