A United States special operations team on Sunday rescued a pilot caught behind enemy lines in the Iranian mountains for more than a day after his F-15 fighter jet was shot down by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In an interview with Reuters, retired Col. Brendan Kearney said the risky operation will be a morale boost as the U.S.-Israel war with Iran enters its second month.
"I guarantee you, for all the times that we’ve attempted to do this in the past, particularly in Vietnam, success rates are usually very, very low,” Kearney said. “And in this particular case, the United States was able to pull it off. And I’m thrilled for that.”
“It’s an accepted fact that you are going to lose aircraft, you’re going to lose, you’re going to have casualties whenever you engage in combat operations.”
Trump posted to Truth Social, confirming the airman was “safe and sound.” Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Trump for what he called “decisive leadership.”
