Arkansas’s Greatest Pie Has a Name That Shall Not Be Spoken

From Kitchen in the Shire.

Possum Pie is one of those old Arkansas desserts with a name strange enough to scare people off… but beneath that funny title is a layered pie of real charm, built from chocolate, sour cream, and is topped with a whipped cream finish. For decades, it has shown up in Arkansas cafés, potlucks, and church suppers, where it became a local favorite taken for granted. Outside the region, though, many people have never even heard of it at all.

In this video, I build my own recipe, from scratch, for a Possum Pie inspired by that classic Arkansas tradition. It consists of a fully homemade version of every layer, from the crust to the fillings to the topping. This is not a copied vintage formula. It’s my own reconstruction of a regional dessert… built from memory, research, and a great deal of testing to capture the texture, balance, and spirit of the original.

The name may be ridiculous, but this pie is absolutely worth taking seriously.
