Smarter stadiums can be found across the globe. From Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to the Japanese national stadium in Tokyo, both are pushing the boundaries of what a venue can offer. But what makes FC Barcelona’s stadium different?

Work began in June 2023 at a cost of about £1.1bn, with Camp Nou now reopening in phases. When the project finishes in 2027, the stadium will be able to hold over 100,000 fans, and it will become one of the largest (and smartest) football venues in the world.

The aim is to produce a sustainable, smart, and green venue with a retractable roof to harvest rainwater and produce solar energy.

BBC Tech Now went inside the new Camp Nou to see how technology is reshaping the fan experience.
