NDP Leader Avi Lewis calls on Carney government to ban “dystopian” digital pricing

From Global News.

During a Monday press conference in Ottawa, the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) newly elected leader Avi Lewis called on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government to implement a national ban on surveillance or digital pricing by retail stores.

He said grocery giants were teaming up with big tech companies to use personal data, including shopping habits and online history, to set individual prices for each person.

"This means that two different people could pay two different prices for the exact same product in the same store, or on the same website on the same day," he said.

Lewis added that disturbing examples of surveillance were already documented in the United States, calling them "downright dystopian."
