Exiled cartoonists give voice to Iran’s silenced millions | AFP

From AFP News Agency.

Three exiled Iranian cartoonists living in different European countries discuss how they have approached the war in their country, which came just months after the government put down protests by its own people, estimated by human rights groups to have killed thousands.

"I can say it becomes very difficult for me to work because taking sides right now is not easy," says Paris-based cartoonist Mana Neyestani. Kianoush Ramezani, based in Finland, says he has been placed under surveillance by Iran and intimidated, but that he feels it is his duty "to first humiliate the regime". Sanaz Bagheri, living in the Netherlands, maintains hope in some of her works: "the essence of this message is that Iran will rise again from its own ashes and will once more be prosperous and free."
