Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded Monday to backlash over his government’s decision to buy a $28.9-million private jet, saying the decision to quickly sell off the Bombardier Challenger 650 was made after hearing from Ontarians who were angry with the purchase.

“I hear loud and clear from the people that this was not the time to purchase a plane,” Ford said.

“I understand the cost of fuel is going up. I understand groceries are going up. I understand everything is going up and it’s costly,” he added.

Ford said the plane was not solely for his use and would have been used by multiple ministries across his government.
