A child sexual assault survivor confronts her Amish community’s silence around sexual abuse. With rare access inside Amish communities, Keep Quiet and Forgive reveals stories of trauma, faith, and resilience as survivors seek justice and healing.

Thirty years after her assault, Lizzie fights to expose Amish abuse and support survivors silenced by “forgive and forget.” She leads a movement to support fellow Amish and Mennonite survivors heal and reform within the Amish community. Sexual abuse is described as an “open secret,” and while there are a few communities starting to support victims, many continue to mount aggressive campaigns to silence those who speak out. Many victims are pressured to forgive their abusers in church and are discouraged from making police reports in favor of dealing with abuse internally.

Lizzie works one-on-one with survivors as they break their silence and navigate life after abuse, suicidal thoughts, family strife, and cultural excommunication. She, along with another survivor Dena, founded the Amish survivors’ support group, Voices of Hope.
