NASA holds press conference on status of Artemis II mission | LIVE

From Global News.

NASA is expected to hold a press conference at 4:45 p.m. EST on the status of the Artemis II mission, the first crewed lunar mission in over half a century. Commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch and Canadian mission specialist Jeremy Hansen will test the flight capabilities of the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft during the flight around the moon.

The 10-day mission will set the stage for long-term space exploration and science on the lunar surface. Lifting off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral, Fla., the astronauts will embark on an approximately 4-day outbound trip, reaching the far side of the moon. The trajectory of the Orion spacecraft will then harness the Earth-moon gravity field, swinging back toward Earth after flying 4,600 miles beyond the moon, creating a trail that resembles a figure eight.

The crew is expected to land in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego, where recovery teams from both NASA and the Department of Defence will bring them back to shore.
