From a cancelled experiment in the 1960s to the 2000s, Thorium Molten Salt Reactors were almost a forgotten technology, overlooked by political forces that wanted to keep the uranium cycle reactors with the ability to produce large quantities of plutonium. But with the release of the research data to the public in the 2010s, China and other countries are now on the road to making these radically different and many say safer nuclear reactors the new mainstream in the future. In this video, we look at how they came about, how they fell and how they were reborn.
