From Global News.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council warned the KMT–CCP meeting risks creating a “false impression” that Taiwan is part of China’s domestic affairs.
Minister Chiu Chui-cheng said Beijing is trying to “confuse international opinion” and rejected any framework that ignores Taiwan’s sovereignty.
In Beijing, one resident called the visit an “ice-breaking trip” and a “positive step for cross-strait exchanges and peace.”
In Taipei, reactions were split, with some supporting dialogue to ease tensions while others questioned the opposition’s role and influence.
The dialogue comes as China increasingly conducts military drills that encircle Taiwan, simulating a seizure and blockade of the island nation.
