Canadian astronaut “very emotional” to see Jeremy Hansen fly to the moon on Artemis II

David Saint-Jacques, an astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency, who has spent time aboard the International Space Station joined Global News from Quebec to talk about Artemis II mission around the moon’s orbit which launched Wednesday.

"This beautiful launch that we all witnessed, a perfect launch. It was a momentous moment," Saint-Jacque’s said, adding that it was also "very emotional" moment for him to see "old friend" Jeremy Hansen represent Canada.

Jeremy Hansen is a member of the Artemis II mission, a 10-day lunar fly-around and the first crewed mission to the moon since the Apollo missions more than 50 years ago.

Hansen, 50, of London, Ont., is serving as the mission specialist and is the first non-American to travel beyond low Earth orbit. He is joined by veteran NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch aboard the Orion spacecraft.
