Canadian government allows temporary use of gopher poison in Alberta, Saskatchewan

From Global News.

The Canadian government is allowing the temporary use of a rodent poison to help farmers in Alberta and Saskatchewan deal with the growing problem of gopher infestations.

The federal government banned strychnine in 2024 as it posed risks to other species that consume poisoned carcasses.

While some farmers are applauding the decision, wildlife advocates are concerned about those risks.

Global’s Jordan Prentice reports.
