Carney, Smith expect to miss MOU climate policy deadline

From Global News.

Both Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith now admit they’ll miss the April 1 deadline to make a deal between their governments on climate change policies outlined in November 2025’s memorandum of understanding between the two governments.

The centrepiece of the Canada-Alberta MOU was an agreement to work towards the construction of a new pipeline to B.C.’s coast. It contained promises to ease federal regulations in exchange for an agreement from Alberta on a series of climate initiatives, including increasing the industrial carbon tax.

"Will we perfectly meet the first? (of April) Not necessarily but do we have momentum? Are we making progress? Yes. We’ll get the right agreement at the right time – I anticipate soon." Mark Carney said.
