Edmonton QEII fatal shooting of Birinder Singh “not racially motivated,” RCMP say | FULL

From Global News.

RCMP said on Wednesday that their investigation into the fatal shooting of Birinder Singh, on Edmonton’s QEII Highway on March 14, was "not racially motivated."

Staff Sgt. John Brown of the RCMP’s Major Crime Division, announced that they arrested 23-year-old Deon Libsekal. Jimmy Gassner, 18, of Lloydminster was previously arrested in Canoe Lake, Sask., and charged with second-degree murder.

Police believe they have a motive for the shooting, but won’t disclose what that is. Brown added that they have found “no evidence to suggest that this attack was motivated by hatred or racial bias against any specific group.”

Three friends were headed to the mountains, when a pickup truck pulled up beside their Honda Civic south of Leduc, near Township Road 490. A person in the truck made a hand gesture toward them, something resembling a peace sign.

They said their friend and the car’s driver, Singh, waved back, but moments later someone in the truck opened fire and a bullet struck the 22-year-old in the neck.
