At a Pentagon briefing Tuesday, Secretary of Defense Hegseth called on other countries to help open the Strait of Hormuz, saying the critical waterway is not just the United States’ problem.

When he was later asked if reopening the Strait of Hormuz is an “essential objective," for the U.S. in Iran, Hegseth focused solely on ending Iran’s missile program, targeting its navy, and ensuring the country is “never going to have a nuclear weapon," suggesting it will take a coalition of countries to open the strait.
