Mei Mei the parakeet was spotted in New York’s Central Park. She was most likely abandoned or escaped from a pet store, according to Liz Cabrera-Holtz from the nonprofit World Animal Protection, and they’ve seen similar reports that did not end well when the weather turned cold.

That’s when a group of friends stepped up to track and rescue Mei Mei.
