What’s up with Philips’ new Bluetooth Turntable and CD Player?

UPDATE: Apparently if one were to double tap the play button it would skip forward a track and holding it for three seconds will fast forward, however there’s still no track back, or rewind button or stop button. What’s the heck was wrong with using separate buttons anyway?
A few people asked me to check what would happen to the CD player output if the switch on the back was switched to Phono rather than Line.
I’ve tested it today and the answer is that the CD player doesn’t output any audio over the RCA connectors in this mode. To summarise if you want to use an external phono pre-amp with the record player you can’t output CD audio from the RCA sockets until it’s switched back into the Line level output mode.
A few more people wanted to know what I’d be doing with this next – well Richer Sounds have been kind enough to get in touch to remind me that I can return this for a refund under their standard Unwanted Goods return policy. So I’ll be doing that. They’re also going to address all the issues I experienced to Philips.
UPDATE 2 – 5th FEBRUARY 2026
Apparently Philips have updated the firmware to fix the ‘noise gate’ auto-mute issue. I was informed of this by a representative from Richer Sounds after I received my refund for my returned unit. The explanation from Philips is that this device shares circuitry with mini systems which utilise a noise gate during source-switching to avoid sudden loud sounds. This function should have been bypassed on the FT1 but it wasn’t, the new firmware has fixed this. I can’t test this myself, I’m just passing on the information I received.
