A search and rescue operation is under way after a US fighter jet was shot down over the west of Iran.

US media reports that one crew member has been found and rescued, while the fate of the second remains unknown.

If it is confirmed that the aircraft was struck by enemy fire, it would mark the first such incident involving a US jet since the start of the war.
