During World War II Navy sailors noticed something weird on their sonar. As it echoed down into the depths… a mysterious shadow pinged back.

It was as large as the seafloor itself but it didn’t make any sense because it was only a couple hundred feet below them.

Conspiracy theories sprung up, but during the war, there was no time to investigate further. Years later, we found out it wasn’t a threat but some vital natural “engineering” keeping our planet healthy.
