“This was a was a war of choice”: Trump pushes for NATO and European allies to open Strait of Hormuz

From Global News.

For the objectives the U.S.-Israel war in the Middle East has sought to take on, the U.S. seems unprepared for the consequences. The Strait of Hormuz closed when the war started and the U.S. appears ready to make re-opening it someone else’s problem.

America’s allies across Europe and NATO who are reliant on oil travelling through the Strait of Hormuz, have largely refused to get involved in the conflict and instead have worked to protect their own assets. This position has resulted in threats from Trump, who’s implied the U.S. won’t assist them in the future.

“If the war ended tomorrow, it would be a strategic defeat for the United States,” Aaron David Miller from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said. “This was a war of choice. There was no imminent or critical threat. The Europeans do not want to contribute efforts to open the straits.”

As Reggie Cecchini reports, Iran confirms messages are being exchanged with the U.S. and claims and end to the war is possible but only with guarantees, however that demand is seemingly offset by a growing U.S. military presence.
