Trump threatens reporters over missing airman leak

From PBS NewsHour.

President Donald Trump threatened to pressure or jail journalists who first reported on a second missing U.S. airman after being shot down near Iran last week as part of the search for what he called a "leaker" in the federal government.

Two airmen went missing on Friday after an American fighter jet was shot down. The first airman was recovered within hours, while the second officer was stranded in Iranian territory until U.S. forces rescued him on Sunday.

During a news briefing on Monday, Trump said that his administration is pursuing the person who leaked information about the second airman, claiming the reports alerted Iran and put the rescue operation at risk.

“They didn’t know there was somebody missing until this leaker gave the information," Trump said.

While the president did not name specific news outlets, he said the government is going to pressure them to release their sources.

"So whoever it was, we think we’ll be able to find it out because we’re going to go to the media company that released it, and we’re going to say, national security, give it up or go to jail,” Trump said.
