From PBS NewsHour.
President Donald Trump said the U.S. military has a “plan” to target Iran’s power plants and bridges, despite experts raising concerns that it could constitute a war crime if the U.S. strikes civilian infrastructure.
The U.S. military has a plan “where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding, and never to be used again,” the president said during a news conference Monday.
Trump has been escalating his threats toward Iran’s civilian infrastructure in recent weeks, giving Tehran a Tuesday evening deadline Washington time to agree to a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route for the world’s oil and gas supply.
“Do I want to destroy their infrastructure? No, it will take them 100 years to rebuild,” the president said. “The only way they’re going to be able to rebuild their country is to utilize the genius of the United States of America.”
