In 1979, Canadian gas prices were skyrocketing because of a major disruption in world oil markets and stratospheric gasoline prices, sparked by Organization of Petroleum-Exporting Countries (OPEC)’s pricing and supply issues during the Iranian Revolution.

The situation got so bad, many wondered if Canada would have to implement gas rationing.
