A court case is now underway in Alberta that will test the validity of a proposed referendum on the province’s independence.

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy are suing Elections Alberta and the provincial government to try to stop a petition from Stay Free Alberta, which says it already has enough signatures for a referendum.
